1. Introduction to 3D Visualization:

This web course introduces several means of representing data in 3D. Topics are discussed and then instructions and data are given to apply the new information.

Topics covered include:

    • Comparing 2D and 3D scene side by side
    • Determining the appropriate elevation type for a layer
      • on the ground, relative to the ground, and absolute height
    • Using vertical exaggeration to make features more visible
    • 3D extrusion
    • Applying visual effects to 3D scenes
      • fill symbol layers, procedural markers
      • visual effects such as shadow and light manipulations
      • using a global scene to apply realistic shadows based on a date and time

2. Line of Sight Analysis:

This web course covers the basic concepts of line of sight analysis and how to successfully accomplish an analysis of this nature. As with the previous class data is provided along with instructions to implement new knowledge learned immediately.

Topics covered include:

    • Obstruction analysis
    • Process of performing visibility analysis
      • determine targets and observers
      • construct sight lines
      • determine line of sight
    • Requirements for a line of sight analysis

3. Preforming Viewshed Analysis:

This web course covers the basic concepts of viewshed analysis and how to successfully accomplish an analysis of this nature. As with the previous class data is provided along with instructions to implement new knowledge learned immediately.

Topics covered include:

    • Viewshed analysis basics
    • How visibility is modeled
    • How to manipulate the output of viewshed analysis

      • (photo source: https://pro.arcgis.com/en/pro-app/latest/tool-reference/3d-analyst/using-viewshed-and-observer-points-for-visibility.htm)
    • Using raster functions to compare viewshed analysis

4. Sharing 3D Content Using Scene Layer Packages

This web course covers the basic concepts of creating and sharing 3D content using scene layer packages. As with the previous class data is provided along with instructions to implement new knowledge learned immediately.

Topics covered include:

    • Applications of 3D scenes
    • Local vs Global Scenes
    • Designing a scene based on purpose
    • Steps to designing a scene
      • load data
      • display 2D as 3D
      • convert 2D to 3D
    • Use of Layer 3D to Feature Class
    • How to share a scene
