Module 5: Choropleth Mapping

 Module 5: Choropleth Mapping

Choropleth mapping is a fundamental skill required by cartographers. It is important to understand the ins and outs of this thematic map. In this lab I practiced choosing an appropriate color scheme, legend, classification method for population data,  and implementing proportional/ graduated symbols.

The map below shows the population density for countries in Europe in people per kilometer and the wine consumption in liters per capita. This map uses thematic concepts to communicate population density. darker colors are more dense and lighter colors are less dense. Graduated symbols are being used to illustrate the amount of wine consumed per capita. Also notice that there are no gaps between the colored patches in the legend for population density. This is good standard practice in choropleth maps.
