DESCRIPTION AND EXPERIENCE:
The map pictured above orients the user to the location of the University of West Florida's (UWF) campus in relation to the county it resides in (Escambia Country) and to the state as a whole. The inset (the smaller map in the right-hand corner) shows Florida and its counties and illustrates the location of Escambia County. The larger map shows Escambia in a close-up view. Within Escambia County, the user can see how nearby cities, major rivers, and interstate relate to UWF's campus location. This lab taught me how to illustrate all these aspects and additionally I learned how to insert a logo, scale bar, north arrow, and legend. I also learned to examine metadata and decipher the origins of the data and track its lineage. We also covered appropriate color choices for different map elements.
This is a great first attempt at making an informative, accurate, and attractive map.
